The studio

Brian Dorsey Studios is a team of photographers and cinematographers working out of 291 7th Avenue in Manhattan. Two of them have been named among American Photo's Top Ten Wedding Photographers in the World, and couples are shown the individual portfolios before choosing who will photograph their day.

The pictures are unposed. A wedding photographer spends the day alongside people during one of the largest and most disorienting days of their lives, and the studio takes the view that the photographs follow from getting that part right rather than from arranging anyone.

That commitment has been tested literally. When Hurricane Irene closed the city on a wedding day in August 2011 and much of the wedding party could not travel, Brian reached the couple anyway, in a Land Rover bought for exactly that kind of morning.

Weddings

The whole day, covered by a team rather than a single camera, in New York and wherever else the wedding happens to be.

Engagement portraits

A session before the wedding. It is where a couple gets used to being photographed, and where the save-the-dates come from.

Albums and proof magazines

The edit made physical. Albums are designed in the studio, with proof magazines so the whole take can be lived with first.

Cinematography

Wedding films for the parts of a day that will not hold still: the vows, the toasts, the room at midnight.

Children and mitzvahs

Portraiture for families, and coverage across the whole weekend of a bar or bat mitzvah.

Travel and destination

Portrait sessions made while a family is away, photographed across the stay rather than in one sitting.
